5 out of 5 stars Great Little Netbook   December 29, 2009

The HP Mini 1035NR is a great little netbook. The 10.2 screen allows the larger 1024x600 resolution. The 92%-sized keyboard has a good solid feel. Unlike the Dell netbooks you can upgrade the Mini to 2 GB of RAM when sold with windows XP.

Two small issues related to this computer:
1)The webcam display is dark due to a manufacturing defect that left tinted film over the lens. You can fix this yourself by removing the tape (and voiding the warranty), send it to HP, or use the software upgrade provided by HP to increase the webcam brightness.

2)The 1.8" harddrive is slightly slower (and smaller) than the competition, but if you cache your web browser to RAM and upgrade to 2 GB of RAM this should not be a problem.

The HP mini line is a great line of netbooks and I feel the 1035NR is the best in that line.

I found my HP mini for $250 as it has been discontinued. Until Intel improves on the Atom this will remain one of the top netbooks.

5 out of 5 stars HP mini 1035 NR Is Just Right...   May 11, 2009

I'm a graphic designer, computer tutor and instructional technology student. I own 5 computers, including a brand new HP mini 1035NR. So far I am absolutely thrilled... I needed a something portable and sturdy, with dependable, quick and easy access to the internet in a variety of locations,I must have decent graphics (I'm rather picky about that) and a friendly interface. I do my homework, and I am realistic about what the limitations of a netbook are. I'll use it for a variety of extremely useful tasks, but I don't expect to run my graphics programs on a netbook... That said, after much flip flopping, I purchased this HP as part of a package: netbook, case, dvd writer, and mini mouse.
It was a close race between the acer, asus, and HP...it finally came down to the best deal and I like my HP netbook so much that I'm not even coveting that adorable (but way too expensive) little sony netbook anymore. My HP mini is way faster than I actually expected... Camera is fine in good light, IMHO, built in mics are always audio nightmares...so I'll be using a usb headphone/mic for podcasts...The storage key is a neat extra...ALL in ALL...Two thumbs up for the stylish little powerhouse HP mini 1035NR!

2 out of 5 stars not so good for me!   May 7, 2009

I bought this netbook 2 weeks ago, and returned it w/in 5 days because it caught a virus! Its really cool looking but I actually think it costs too much for what the device actually does. Plus, you have to buy a lot of upgrades along with it. It also is a lot slower than a regular-sized computer because it is of course a lot smaller. I would recommend that you look into netbooks more so than I did, because you might be very disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars hp 1035 two side of the coin   May 4, 2009

The HP mini 1035 is by far the best netbook under the 400usd mark. Second only to its newest and better highly improved brother the HP mini 2140. It has the best specs and the webcam issue can be easly fixed.
However do take head that the newer wave release of hp 1035 no longer has 1024x600 resolution but 1024x576 much like the 1137model

4 out of 5 stars Great Mini Notebook   May 1, 2009

This has been one of the best investments that have made. I am a student at a four year University and bought the HP Mini 1000 specifically to take to class to take notes. Recently my University made it a requirement to have a laptop, I went out and bought a small "ultra portable" 12.1" notebook. I ended up spending around $1,000 for the computer. Then about a month ago I got the HP netbook. Its small size and weight allows me to pack it around to all of my classes, and for once the computer weighs less then my textbooks!
I picked the Mini 1000 because of all the netbooks out there it had the largest keyboard, which took very little getting used to. I loaded Office 2007, and with the beta version of Microsoft Live Mesh, I am able to keep my two computers synced up, transferring notes and file easily to and fro.
The only complaint that I have is that the small 3 cell battery is not enough to get me through the day without carrying around the power cord. I can get a little over 3 hours with the wireless card turned on, and the screen set at about half power (brightness).
This is a great little machine, but remember it is not a complete substitute for a full size computer.
